Two Years of Promises Made, Promises Kept!
Since 2023, the UW Tacoma student body has cast their vote for the Allied Students Initiative (ASI) Ticket, and we haven’t taken that trust lightly. Since taking office, we’ve turned your voices into action, your concerns into priorities, and your suggestions into campus-wide change!
We’ve worked hard to build a stronger, more inclusive UW Tacoma. One step, one win, one initiative at a time!

Student Health & Wellness Wins
ASI made free menstrual products available in campus bathrooms.
This eliminated period poverty for students who couldn’t afford or access them on campus.

Free NARCAN for Students
ASI created and continues to run the campus-wide NARCAN distribution program in partnership with Student Health.
Students are now equipped with life-saving tools to prevent overdoses and protect their fellow students and community.
ASI initiated and promoted Wellness Week, an initiative sparked by student voices, which is now carried forward by other campus departments.
Your feedback made this a lasting part of UW Tacoma culture!

Food Equity & Basic Needs Wins
ASI restructured and relocated the campus food pantry to a larger, more accessible space. This directly increased food access for students, expanded what the pantry can offer, and ensured a more sustainable funding model for long-term operations.
Food Pantry
Restructure
ASI pushed university leadership to commit to building a dining hall on campus, to bring parity among the three campuses, and they did! A dining hall is now officially planned to open in Fall 2029, giving future students a reliable on-campus food source and social hub.
Dining Hall
Coming Soon
ASI secured funding for a full-time Basic Needs Navigator at UW Tacoma. Now there’s a professional dedicated solely to helping students with food, housing, and other emergencies in the Office of Advocacy and Support.
Support Staff for
Students
ASI led efforts to include UW Tacoma in the Washington State’s Higher Education Food Insecurity Pilot Program. The plan would provide direct financial support to students to buy food. While the 2025 Legislative Session proved to be more challenging than anticipated, ASI will be pursuing other funding avenues to get this program for students.
Initiatives to Put More Money in
Student’s Pockets
Campus Safety Wins
ASI worked with the City of Tacoma to install more lights along Court D Street. Students now walk through a safer, better-lit campus corridor at night.
Increased Lighting
On Campus
ASI expanded the campus safety alert system to include all students (previously an opt-in). Now, all students are notified when something emergent happens on or near campus.
Campus Alert
System
ASI has begun conversations with the city and university leadership about local traffic and student safety. We’re addressing crosswalk dangers and pushing for safer roads around campus.

Classroom Advocacy Wins
ASI created two new ASUWT Directors for 2025-2026 to address student matters of academic concern among Undergraduate and Graduate students. These new positions will ensure every student has dedicated academic representation at the program level.
Increased Representation for Academic Concerns
ASI empowered ASUWT Senators to advocate directly within their academic programs. Senators collected student input regarding their academic programs in Fall 2024 and begun implementing their findings with their academic program’s Dean.

Legislative Wins
ASI reactivated the legislative branch of ASUWT, allowing for the organization to begin lobbying on student interests for the first time since 2019. And we didn’t just revive it, we made it stronger than ever!
Rebuilt
Legislative Capacity
ASI created the Legislative Action Council to bring students outside of ASUWT into our advocacy work. Now, students directly inform the contents of our Legislative Agenda, shaping the bills and issues we fight for as an organization.
Increased Student
Representation in Legislative Process
ASI created more opportunities for students to engage in real legislative action, from voter initiatives during primaries and elections, student civic education trainings, signing in support of bills, to joining us for Huskies on the Hill, where ~80 UW Tacoma students met face-to-face with lawmakers regarding matters concerning college students.
Increased Opportunities
For Student Engagement
ASI passed 7 student-focused state bills in 2024 that addressed issues concerning college affordability, overdose prevention, and undocumented student rights. Throughout the 2025 session, we’ve advocated for expanded support for student basic needs and defended tuition increases and financial aid cuts.

Equity & Inclusion Wins
ASI launched the Inclusive Access Task Force. This group is focused on breaking down campus barriers and advocating for equity at every level. The Task Force is partnering with the Office of Equity and Inclusion and Disability Resource Services to address all aspects of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) on campus.
Inclusive Access
Task Force Launched
ASI is creating a student advisory committee to guide the Center for Equity & Inclusion’s programming and the Food Pantry to ensure culturally appropriate foods for all students. This will ensure student needs, not just admin priorities, shape future DEI work at UW Tacoma.
Student Advisory Committees to Support Inclusion
ASI created a new Director of Equity and Accessibility for 2025-2026. This student leader will focus on campus-wide initiatives that advance equity and access for all students and ensure all of ASUWT’s operations are equitable and inclusive to all students.
